What is Axe & Hatchet Throwing?
Axe throwing is all about hitting a target with a small axe, like a hatchet. At Two Social, our axe throwing lanes use soft cottonwood boards that make it easier for the axes to stick. The targets are projected directly onto the wood, allowing for an exciting mix of real axes and high-tech visuals. Whether you're here for a group outing, date night, or solo fun, we make sure you have a blast while learning the basics and perfecting your throw.

How to Throw an Axe
Two-Handed Throw
Perfect for Beginners
Grip the Axe
Hold the handle lightly with both hands at the base. Don't hold on too tight—a loose grip helps you release it better.
Stance
Stand 12 feet from the target with your shoulders square and your dominant foot slightly forward.
Motion
Bring the axe back over your head with the blade dropping behind your shoulders. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and rock your hips forward as you swing the axe. Avoid stepping forward to maintain better balance and control.
Release
Let go of the axe at eye level and follow through with your arms stretched out in front of you.

One-Handed Throw
For When You're Ready to Level Up
Grip and Alignment
Hold the axe lightly with one hand, keeping your throwing arm and shoulder lined up with the bullseye.
Motion
Bring the axe back past your ear and keep it straight. Avoid tilting to one side.
Release
Throw the axe like a dart, letting go when the handle is straight up and down. Follow through by extending your arm forward.
Fixing Common Throwing Issues
If your axe doesn't stick, don't worry—it happens to everyone. Here's how to fix it:
Over-Rotation
If the top of the axe hits the board, take a half step closer.
Under-Rotation
If the handle hits the board, take a half step back.
Perfect Hit
When the blade lands flush against the target, you're at the right distance. Keep practicing that form!
Safety First
We want everyone to have a great time, and safety is key. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Make sure the area is clear before you throw.
Wait for all axes to stop moving before retrieving them.
Don't flick your wrists or throw too hard. Let the axe do the work.
Follow the instructions from our staff to stay safe and improve your throw.
